Not a nice situation to be in the middle of nowhere and have the water and one's boat struck. And a new source for the origin of potholes -- lightning blowing a chunk out of the asphalt. In contrast, have seen several trees with missing strips of bark running down their sides. And one once that was completely obliterated, chunks scattered all over the countryside. Not even a decent stump remaining.

When I was in the Navy and stationed at the NAS in Kingsville Tx there was hole in one of the runways that always got struck by lightning during a storm. It was the first time I'd ever heard of lightning striking the ground in the same spot.
