Appearing in the discussion: Kripke or the writing team under him adapted Homelander to being an allegory of the West Coast's caricature of Trump. So they have to make Homelander as vile, degenerate, narcissistic, and stupid as possible this season. Ergo the horrendous opening clip from the episode.
On the plus side, the TV adaptation is so far off the rails from Garth Ennis's adult graphic novel that the latter isn't going to be a spoiler for the show's ending, if you've read all 70+ issues of the original. And Erin Moriarty has Graves' disease -- that was the reason for her physical appearance changing through the seasons (not runaway plastic surgery of Michael Jackson ilk).
