^^^ I can't tell if Syne is trying to make the point that the OP's description of evolution is badly presented or is actually wrong. Might be rhetoric, might be Socratic or possibly just plain trolling.
Somehow "Whales and humans are mammals" works but "Humans and fish are fish" doesn't. The "Birds and reptiles are both reptiles" problem can be resolved by both being descended from a notional 'preptile' .. reptiles having retained many features of the 'preptile' while birds have lost and gained many features - both can now be 'preptiles'.
