5 motivators of mass shooters

'Jack didn't blame video games or movies for his crime, but he did say that all the violent media, combined with his extreme social isolation, contributed to his mental state. "The idea to go into my high school with two sawed-off shotguns, a bayonet from the [Boer War], hundreds of rounds of ammo, and pipe bombs did not come to me over night. It started off like most revenge fantasies. Reservoir Dogs had come out that year, and Clint Eastwood's Unforgiven [on the other hand]; so did White Men Can't Jump and Sister Act, but I think the violence did help to set the mood."'

Maybe I'm out on a limb, but I feel we are witnessing with the Daesh recruits from around the world the ultimate fruit of game and media violence. But OTOH, those graphic sources weren't around during the era of Nazism and similar pogroms across history. Perhaps it's best to say that they have re-introduced / popularized what would be an otherwise more passive civilization to its barbarian traditions and atavistic nature.

Humans, being social animals, even loners twiddling away on their X-box controls, seem very likely to be influenced by the cultural atmosphere portrayed on their screens.  It doesn't seem beyond the bounds of likelihood that what they experience may trigger behavior that might even appear out of character for them.  I recall how television show episodes had me fantasizing and actually acting according to what I had viewed.

Television and video game reality creates a world populated by stereo/archetypal characters. The villians and heroes are two dimensional figures representing good and evil in a naively dualistic universe. I can see how being isolated from and inexperienced in the social realm of truly complex people and relationships that defy such easy labeling might allow this cartoon universe to get projected from weak minded malcontents. The paranoia of seeing "them" all around you, glibly floating along with what their told, while you are denied by the system the respect and freedom you truly deserve. So
when a stereotype gets killed, it's not really the death of a real human being. It's the mere removal of a virtual obstacle in your game of "winning" and becoming the honored champion you are so desperate to emulate out of your painful awareness that you are truly a loser with no life at all. Aren't they ALL just the "walking dead"--mindless zombies roaming a world that you are trying to successfully navigate to reach your fantasy goal of becoming the worshipped badass hero?
