EXCERPT: On an episode of the Late Show, host Stephen Colbert and Jane Lynch had an interesting discussion of guardian angels. Lynch, who currently stars as a guardian angel in “Angel from Hell”, related a story of how her guardian angel held her in a protective embrace during a low point of her life. Colbert, ever the rational Catholic, noted that he believed in guardian angels despite knowing that they do not exist. EXCERPT: It's a well-known theorem if conditioning on A increases the probability of B, then [...] (1 comment) Sam Harper says: "It seems to me that absence of evidence is only evidence of absence in cases where we should expect there to be evidence if something is there. For example, if there were an elephant in the room, we should expect to see one. But if there is a spider in the room, we wouldn't necessarily expect that to be evidence since a little spider can be hard to spot."
