Idaho's impossible rainforest
https://youtu.be/RGI0G9o01gM

VIDEO EXCERPTS: Everything I've learned about rainforests tells me that this shouldn't be one. But I look around, and this is a rainforest if I've ever seen one.

[...] Temperate rainforests cover less than 1% of the earth's surface. The largest and most famous is the coastal rainforests of the Pacific Northwest. [...] Here, weather systems from the Pacific smother the coastal mountains with near constant rain and fog. So much that by the time these weather systems pass the coast, they're not done yet.

They keep moving inland, eventually running into the western slopes of the Columbia and Rocky Mountains. [...] With 98% of the world's temperate rainforests being coastal, the inland temperate rainforest is something completely unique. A vast temperate rainforest more than 500 kilometers from the ocean, and the world's only rainforest deriving a large portion of its moisture from snow.

All of that melting snow has resulted in a landscape connected by hundreds of waterways, wetlands, streams, lakes, and the headwaters for three major rivers.

Well, I'm in Idaho, but certainly doesn't feel like it. It feels more like the coast, maybe Oregon or Vancouver Island...

Why there’s a Pacific Ocean port in Idaho
https://youtu.be/OhzY5QLO4FA

Lewiston is located at the confluence of the Snake River and Clearwater River, thirty miles (50 km) upstream and southeast of the Lower Granite Dam. Dams and locks on the Snake and Columbia Rivers make Lewiston reachable by some ocean-going vessels. The Port of Lewiston is Idaho's only seaport, and is the farthest inland port linked to the Pacific Ocean. The Lewiston-Nez Perce County Airport serves the city by air.

VIDEO EXCERPT: This is Lewiston you might know it as the home of Idaho's western most Dairy Queen or as the 13th best place to retire in the state of Idaho, at least according to this one website. But this small town of 34,000 people is probably best known for this: The Port of Lewiston. Located 336 miles from the Pacific Ocean, and residing entirely within a landlocked state, is far and away the most Inland sea port that you can reach from the west coast...
