There is this common sense realism view of what seeing is. We see objects around us that are being lit up by some external light source. We SEE the objects--their color and shape and texture. And the objects, as seen, somehow precede the act of seeing them. But is this true? Not really. What is really happening is that light is being reflected off of those objects and carrying an image (a pattern) of it into our eyes where it is converted into electrical signals out of which our brains construct that object as out there with all of its visible properties.
Think of the brain then as the screen on which is displayed the images and scenes of this light movie that is being recorded by our eyes. The eyes are not seeing anything any more than a solar panel sees the sunlight. They are not conscious. They are merely receiving the quantitative information being transmitted thru light which is deciphered as a world of objects beyond us. Information processed in a feedback loop with the movement of our eyes and our bodies.
The 3D light movie we see then in our brains is always changing and shifting relative to our own bodily movements. It's how we construct and in turn experience 3D space. We are in effect the camera recording the movie of us being inside this 3D light movie playing and constantly being updated inside our heads. The outsideness of the world and its objects is totally contained inside the 3D light movie inside our brain. We are the constant and constantly varying viewpoint of being a body inside this light movie. We participate seamlessly in the happening of the movie and its changing scenes and its logical plot by experiencing our bodies as being part of it as well as recording it at the same time. Like Blair Witch Project. And this is the whole self-contained schemata of objective physicality.
AT the same time we are totally OUTSIDE of the movie, as being the consciousness of the movie starring our bodies that is external to the movie itself. The movie is only real as the qualitative depiction of it on the screen--the interface--inside our heads. A realness automatically deferred to the 3D images and scenes in the movie. So we are only in the movie, where every thing is understandable and recorded in completely physical terms, because we are also watching it from some non-physical standpoint outside the movie..A standpoint that is nowhere and yet everywhere at once.
