Forums Post permissions

As you are probably aware, nothing is currently set in stone in regards to the operation of this forum.  Settings and permissions can change (and likely will) based upon the feedback from members using (or trying to use) the forum.  Your involvement is greatly appreciated.

Member Groups
Initially the idea was to have a number of Usergroups specific to this forum.  One is the "Respected Member" group (not entirely sure it should be named this) and the other is the "Constrained Member" group.  (again naming conventions up for grabs)

"Respected Members" were intended to have rights in certain subforums that normal members don't have, like for instance Thread creation.  The idea was that if a member was Respected enough in that particular area (say for instance Maths and Physics) they would be able to create threads on that topic, where as normal members would only be able to post to already open threads.

"Constrained Members" on the other hand are the complete opposite, they are members that the community of members have accumulated a large amount of negative reputation to the point where they end up limited to posting on only one forum.  It's basically a community driven way of dealing with people the community feel a problem without the need of moderators/administrators throwing around Ban's or other disciplinary actions.

(It could be abused if the community was led by mob rule, but if someone ends up stuck in the group they can always ask to have reputation points removed if they felt that it had been abused since they can post to that subforum, they also can still use the PM function.)

Subforum Restrictions

As mentioned the subforums are only restricted by what member group you belong to.  For most of the subforums, members will be able to post threads/posts polls etc  There currently is only a few places where this isn't the case and this is where it's required to  either have a Thread moved there from another forum (by request or by mod) or from a member being a "Respected Member" and creating a thread there for others to interact with.

The idea was that if there were any Strict forums (lets say a forum set-up just for the discussion of already existent Mathematics or Physics rather than someone's personal theory) then that forum would have "Respected Members" create the on-topic threads, to which all members can then post to.

The groups could be extended and named based upon profession type etc, however that's something that will have to be hashed out by the membership since after all it's all very well putting these functions in for use but if they aren't received particularly well or don't function well then there is little point in follow that particular path.  So feel free to express your concerns, opinions and of course suggestions in regards to this (any any other functions) on this forum.
