This project, which used volunteer computers to analyze radio telescope data, stopped distributing new tasks in March 2020 to focus on analyzing the accumulated data. The team has indicated that they may eventually resume volunteer computing with data from other telescopes.

One thing that puzzles me is this: Why does SETI scan the heavens looking for ET when they could just check out the neighborhood for evidence of intelligent signals emanating from UAP’s? Seems like SETI doesn’t believe aliens are flitting about the Earth in their orbs, tic tacs, cigar shapes, triangles, saucers, glowing plasma blobs and whatever. SETI doesn’t seem to be able to pick up signals from those alien craft yet they’re right outside the window, on a daily basis.

What’s going on? Why visual vs scientific instrument detection? What for? Wasn’t the Pentagon’s first release of US Navy pilots suspicious UFO encounters same year (2020) as SETI stopping to analyze its accumulated data? Govt conspiracy to allow release of UFO/UAP files/documents to hide the fact SETI did find evidence of ET out there and they need to translate it. You know, just in case.

I think there was a fair decline when other projects started doing similar crowd sourced processing, such as DNA folding, and Bitcoin. Further to that people have short attention spans, in the sense they'd do a few units and get bored from not having some sort of result or positive taxis beyond handing in a unit.

It's also down to how computers were, originally it would use the idle time of a screensaver to crunch, not many systems run screensavers anymore.
Also most people have shifted from having a home PC or Mac to just using their phones etc.

That being said it would be possible for a resurgence to use idle time on Cloud systems that aren't currently being used, for instance there might be a slot available to someone whos bought an expensive phone for processor time (Something like Geforce Go or other render streaming services) That could be used when they aren't using it in theory, however most people would likely rather hook up a cryptocurrency to idle crunch money than do a unit that just processes data of looking at the sky.

There is also the amount of Junk signals that now surround our planet, with ever increasing number of smart systems all attempting to network up on different frequencies just to stop themselves interfering with each other. Ground Radio telescope now suffer greatly from that noise. Along with the other networks that contribute to it such as Musk Starlink and other variants.

As for the can of worms of why they look? well some wanted to find something, others just wanted to rule finding something out. They look for something out from a different star system as everything else can be earthbound or mundane. (Such as Psy Ops programs being responsible some historic for UAPs and more recent ones being startups, billionaires, state operators even high schools)
