The political tensions of "Superman"?

Struck me as a mismatch, too. Maybe Gunn can still have other characters do the gags, but Supe is such a boy scout that he would seem to derail Gunn's usual MO for a superhero movie. And trying to spoof or parody the traditional narrative as a whole (like the 1960s TV Batman or 2013's The Lone Ranger or whatever), would surely garner a negative reaction indeed.

(Jon Del Arroz) Superman is an inherently right-wing Christian concept, which is why James Gunn and modern DC Comics cannot tell a good superhero story with him

VIDEO EXCERPT: I've said earlier [1st link at top] that Superman is inherently a right-wing concept. I've also triggered these people before by saying Star Trek is inherently a right-wing concept. And I'll stop you there before you start arguing that it's always been left-wing. If you look at the original Star Trek, it's really about human exceptionalism.

It's actually about manifest destiny, and expanding into space because it's our God-given right. They actually did acknowledge Jesus Christ in an episode, and Spock actually called it a logical thing.

Though later Star Trek series eventually changed into this weird space communism that doesn't really make sense. The Borg was an anti-communist concept. Actually Klingons were originally an anti-communist concept.

I said Superman is an inherently right-wing concept. A strong white male archetype loyal to one woman in marriage. In early issues he fights government corruption, is anti-war, not to mention he's a Christ figure.

So here this guy argues that he's an undocumented immigrant created by two Jews, who fought Nazis, the KKK, etc. His arch nemesis is a billionaire CEO.

Well, he has never actually read Superman. I actually reread all the Superman original Action Comics stuff very recently, and this is not what Superman was whatsoever.

Superman was actually raised by Martha Kent and John Kent in small town rural America. He is that flyover country that you hate -- the Red State voter. He has that farmer work ethic that is a definite Republican voter.

Superman also fought Communists, he fought all enemies of America -- foreign and domestic.

And when they introduced Lex Luthor, he was not some just billionaire guy. He was like a warmonger who was manipulating an Eastern European conflict into war. He is more akin to your weird Deep State government people trying to do their things, than anything else. Naturally he got changed later and that's the part of the corruption of our culture...

Yeah, James Gunn, Krypto the super dog, and too many characters make me very skeptical.
Plus it's hard to replace Henry Cavil with a padded suit.

I thought Krypto was purely some "Lassie" inspired relic of the 1950s. But apparently the dog has had appearances as late as the 2000s comic books. Thank goodness the cat and the monkey haven't been resurrected (they're at the 49-second mark).

Curious that -- AFAIK -- nobody has ever given Jerry Seinfeld a cameo in a non-animated Superman film. There was that 1998 commercial where he was blended with a cartoon Superman that sounded like David Puddy. And the two longer short videos:
