Parody Corner: It's like the old days when there was fear of offending the Church or violating its doctrines. The secular community apparently still has a regressive craving for a do-gooder tome like the Bible to be servant to, and the assorted political offshoots or appendages of critical theory alternatively fill that sacred placeholder spot.

First things first: What is the Cass Review?

INTRO: It is a report out of England on how best to treat young people who are experiencing gender dysphoria or questioning their gender identity (Cass 2024).
The independent review was a thorough analysis of the available science and treatment studies. Tapped to head the investigation was Dr. Hilary Cass, one of England’s leading pediatricians. It was commissioned by the United Kingdom’s National Health Service (NHS) to guide the organization on these issues going forward.
The conclusions drawn put a yellow caution sign in front of any rush to medicalize treatment for minors who are having gender-identity issues.
Gender clinics, therapists, and doctors were often moving too fast and failing to take other mental health issues into account, the report concluded. In general, clinicians were unable to confidently identify those young people who retain a transgender identity into adulthood and those whose gender identity issues will naturally resolve, it found, which suggests that doing anything irreversible is a risky course of action. And there is weak evidence for the early use of puberty blockers, with their positive impact questionable and their long-term consequences poorly understood.
This was not what the trans-activist community wanted to hear. There were denunciations of the Cass Review (WPATH and USPATH 2024) and, more prominently in the United States, a determined effort to ignore it.
I give a lot of credit to New York Times opinion columnist Pamela Paul, who has been willing to draw attention to the issue. Her piece in July titled “Why Is the U.S. Still Pretending We Know Gender-Affirming Care Works?” punctured the mainstream media’s radio silence that had greeted the Cass Review in the United States since its publication in April.
Paul said the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the American Medical Association (AMA) have not responded to the blockbuster report, and when she pressed those entities, HHS wouldn’t respond on the record, and the AMA punted to the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Endocrine Society—which basically said there’s nothing new to say in response.
As Paul points out, other countries did pay attention and took strong actions. In England, the government ended puberty blockers for young people under eighteen. And reevaluation of the use of medical interventions before the age of majority is happening in Scandinavian countries, France, Germany, and elsewhere.
The United States is an outlier among Western nations in part because anything that touches on transgender issues has been so politicized. It is hard to raise concerns about early interventions, because to do so makes it seem like you are making common cause with anti-transgender bigots. Yet nothing could be further from the truth.
It is not only an act of compassion to worry about the medical and psychological health of children with gender identity issues; it is a medical responsibility to establish which interventions are safe and effective and at what ages... (MORE - details)
