It kind of defeats the purpose of defining when we call a non-political demographic with a common belief system a political movement. Like calling veganism or transhumanism a type of populism too.

Getting back to Weinstein... The family in this case... Eric's brother Bret Weinstein (video clip at bottom)...
This echoing of Vivek Ramaswamy's sell way back in the primaries that: "Well, they won't let Trump be president again." So vote for me. Okay, I'm almost tempted to buy it. The new establishment does seem every bit as paranoid about the possibility of Trump winning as the old establishment was about communist infiltration back in the 1950s. In the face of such a subjectively perceived "menace", it morally justifies their right to do anything to stop it (from their POV). Given the assorted assassinations back in the 1960s and the ongoing attempts on Trump this year... They could derail him in multiple potential ways, from extreme to mild (like tweaking the election). The key item swinging me is how absolutely hysterical they are across the spectrum -- from mainstream media to entertainment celebrities to academia to Dem-supporting businesses to indeed government agencies like the FBI. When they're not furiously exalting Kamala like the second coming of the goddess Asherah, they're drooling gobs of disturbed agitation like panic-stricken puppies. You can't escape it. Everywhere you turn, there are these super-neurotic apprehensions of Trump. Of course, that's been the case in varying and mitigated degrees and intermittent spasms since 2016. But now it's at such maximum seizure level that you can feel it tingling in the air like a thunderbolt about to drop. Maybe not as overt as Putin taking out Yevgeny Prigozhin in a plane crash, but something to undermine the frenziedly trumpeted "threat to democracy". (Too late to de-radicalize everyone who thinks the country will end if Trump wins) That "landslide" he asserts is necessary to overcome whatever disadvantaging isn't going to happen, though. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Eric Weinstein's brother, Bret https://youtu.be/4Pf0NRbTxq0 VIDEO EXCERPTS: I don't know if you saw Bret Weinstein on Joe Rogan's podcast a couple of weeks ago, but he basically said that in essence the popularity of Trump has to outpace what he called the cheat margin. Which is one of the reasons why they're so terrified of Trump. Like there's only a certain amount of stealing they can do. If you really can manipulate elections, how much can you manipulate? Can you manipulate it by 30%? I call that factor which none of us can put a number on, I call it the cheat margin. I'm trying to convince people that it's not hopeless [despite that], because they can cheat, but it means that you have to succeed at a level that exceeds their capacity to erase it. So we're talking about like maybe they can cheat by 10%. Right. [...] The idea of ballot harvesting, early voting, the kinds of measures that were passed in the context of a pandemic -- that have now become part of the ordinary way we conduct elections -- you could debate the technical legality or illegality of a lot of these measures. But the fact of the matter is that has been an area where Democrats have been far ahead of Republicans. And so I don't think that an ordinary 50.1 in traditional voting is going to be sufficient for potentially a winning the election. In order to save the country I think we need a landslide. And a landslide minus some shenanigans is still going to be a victory. I also think that as important as it is to elect Trump, one of the interesting things going on in this election is that most of the Senate candidates in swing states and even other states are trailing. Like not by a little bit, but significantly trailing. Which means there are scenarios where Donald Trump could win the White House, but we don't have a majority of the Senate. Which would significantly clip his wings in being able to at least legislatively command a second term agenda. So for many reasons, not only for actually determining who occupies the White House, we are skating on ice. I think that 50.1 is not a sufficient margin. ![]()
These New York Times headlines perfectly summarize the 180 degree reversal in US politics over the last few decades.
In the 1960's the left was the insurgent voice of the streets against "the establishment". Theirs was the famous "free speech movement". Today the left's voice is the New York Times (what could be more establishment than that?) Their cause has become suppression of free speech and the Constitution along with it. In the 1970's I was a counterculture hippy. In the 2020's I'm counterculture MAGA. In reality I haven't changed all that much. It's America that has been rotating around to face the other way. ![]() Yazata Wrote:I haven't changed all that much. Trump looks like one of the few patients people able to stop folks talking about banning free speech, get assault rifles back in supermarkets and generally do all the things that make Americans feel safe and strong. |
