Digital Afterlife

This sounds a little creepy to me. I'm sure some people might find it helpful as they mourn the loss of a loved one, but for me, memories are enough. In my opinion, this might prolong the healing process actually, because you'll be grappling with the memories of your deceased loved one (all part of the grieving process), yet fixating on the more recent ''conversations'' that were AI generated, only to remember that you were merely chatting with a robot.

But, if we weren't able to tell the difference, would it matter?

The one problem with the concept of any form of digital afterlife (or even considering the universe to be simulated ) is the question as to "who's box are you in?".

If we consider free will and imply that we shouldn't be treated as an object or posesssion of someone elses ownership, then an an afterlife (being real or fascimilie) is not something we likely want, as we'd no longer have any control (not that we have that much now).

How about chat with the famous who have passed on? People still camp out at the gravesites of famous musicians and such. How about a chat with dead world leaders including absolute despots, murderers, criminally insane, etc. Will somebody start a chat with a dead religious prophet? Damn, nothing will change.
