If it can't write a good sitcoms I don't want it .... ????
The ability to 'talk' is part a fun thing and perhaps because there's no way to program the things in a conventional fashion.
You have to ask it to do a thing. Like "Take the cat to a vet" .. "sTake the cat to a vet" might not work out well.
On a battlefield (for example) it can hold far more data than a human could. It can suggest advances and retreats .. estimate losses .. the Russians (and now the Ukrainians) might already be using AI.

I remember an old tv show called The Prisoner starring Patrick McGoohan way back. His captors bragged they had a computer that could answer any question you could ask it. So McGoohan’s character typed in a question and the computer blew up. The question he typed was ‘Why?’ Don’t think this AI blows up if asked but be interesting to see if it would attempt an answer.

Still just a powerful calculator appended with the ability to converse like an enhanced digital assistant. When it gets as good or better than good television and movie writers of fiction[1] (so that the latter indeed lose their jobs), that's when it demonstrates it understands humans and the world they reside in. (Granting that a zombie equivalent of that is possible, which may be the case.)

[1] Fiction because non-fiction adheres to formal templates that it could already work successfully within. And fiction as pertaining to the screen industry because limited amounts of mistakes and nonsense in proper literature could still be hailed as genius or new artistic breakthroughs (as may apply in the past).

Talk about amazing coincidences. Yesterday I was going to mention a different scene from the final episode of The Prisoner. But it was so long ago that I misremembered what happened. I thought there was literally a monkey or ape running things from a control room. But instead it was a gorilla mask, with the face of Number Six under that mask. Which nuked what I had intended to use as an analogy.

I was a mere broth of a lad when that series came out. Did McGoohan have the look of a secret agent or what? I hated that giant inflated condom that patrolled the grounds. Vaguely remember the gorilla mask scene. I thought of The Prisoner when I first saw The Truman Show movie and same when I watched Stallone in the Escape Plan movie.

Man from Uncle, Time Tunnel and Combat were other TV shows I made sure I watched each week.

Kind of weird prisoner of war camp where the prisoners are outside the fence. The entertainments committee carries on as usual but that's about the only thing that hasn't changed.
