As the Universe increases in volume, the total amount of “dark energy” increases as the volume increases: a Universe that’s eight times the volume has eight times the amount of energy in it, and as it continues to expand, the energy within the Universe increases without bound as well.

Perhaps as the universe expands man will learn how to use this increasing energy for his advantage. A never ending source of energy. Seems to be a promising area of research.
