A common notion about autism is having a laser-like attention to detail. My impression has been that it is more of an attraction to searching for general similarities in things so as allow more understanding and even predictability of the surroundings.

I've noticed with my autistic nephew that he has a very low tolerance threshold for contradiction. There is no appreciation for the subtleties of language, or the variations in the meanings of words. This means this, and that's it! That may be an indication of a weak grasp for the uniqueness of specific cases and their variant degrees of departure from the general set containing them. A dolphin is a mammal for example, but it has fins and no fur. ETC...
