Life happiness w/respect to age

Anyone else believe this won't apply to themselves, whereas they expect to be unhappier after midlife?

Who knows what unexpected twists the future might hold for us, but we've had relatives and older family members that at least seemed to scrape against an idealized version of the golden years. Apart from any intermittent crankiness possibly caused by nutritional deficiencies, there is that percentage of retired seniors who do seem to be mellow, easy-going / relaxed, and enjoying circumstances as long as their health is good, their social life is adequate, they have interests including community volunteer work, and they're not living in destitute conditions.
