I've contended that something akin to or beyond GAN is what will place certain simulated realities of the future in the context of solipsism. With respect to the user's perspective being generated spontaneously rather than interacting with the precise or non-general data of a "completely" pre-existing, stored world environment ("real").

Our own ad-lib dreams surely rely on similar battling processes (as well as categorical and formulaic memory concepts). Though those that substitute for the corrective role of a "discriminator network" are only loosely devoted to maintaining coherence and being regulated by principles. Something that an oneirocosm (dream-world) or solipsism machine of tomorrow will have to be several orders above more strict about, in order to fool the observer with its long sequence of sensory events.
