We are the self that is immediately relating and being related to. In the impromptu flurry of clumsily said things, revealing microexpressions, and socially validated experimentations in being somebody interesting, we come together as a self FOR this particular person. We willingly submit to objectification and identification based on played along with inferences about us and the kind of person we must therefore be. But this self, this nexus of immediate relatings and empathies and complicit motives, doesn't really exist outside of this formative organic situatedness in another's experience. A self does not exist objectively apart from someone experiencing it. It isn't like you are this sort of person when you are watching TV or sleeping or taking a shower or whatever. The self we are is something we become for others and, reciprocally, for ourselves--a deal we strike for the privelege of communicating deeply with another consciousness. We have to become a someone who can be trusted and typified before accessing the secret truths of another soul. We have to allow ourselves the inconvenience of being loved and humanized if we really want to experience the subjective and dynamic reality of another person.
