I rather fancy swimming out to sea and never coming back. The flaw in this is that I'm a total sissy once cold water gets more than about an inch above my knees.

You do know that there are warmer seas, right? Don't let the cold deter you.
Channel swimmers use goose fat. I'm thinking 'Spreads straight from the Fridge' butter might work almost as well. I'll try it next time Mrs C2 is away. One leg with the butter stuff and the other with virgin olive oil. I'm confident I can crack this without unnecessary (and hazardous) travel.
