Airshow Time!

It didn't happen last year due to some stupid disease. But the San Francisco Fleet Week Airshow is back! It's one of the high points of my year! Kind of the unofficial end of summer.

They try to sell tickets, but it's not like you can't see it from just about anywhere in the city.

People watch from the top of hills, but I prefer to watch right at the edge of the Bay on the Embarcadero. There's a "secret" spot (big crowds gather there so it isn't much of a secret) that I have where the jets pull out of their formations and scream overhead at just above rooftop height. It's almost like you can reach up and touch them - and it is LOUD!!! They kind of sneak up on you, then WHAM! Over they go with a roar that shakes you to your core. The best part of that is all the little kids screaming with a mixture of terror... and joy! They love it and want more. I feel that way myself.

Great photo showing Blue Angel F-18 jet with condensation fog on its aerosurfaces

Watching old WWII fighters (P-51's looks like) from the top of a hill.

Blue Angels! Go Navy!

When I was in the Navy and stationed at NAS Kingsville TX around 1997, we had an airshow there on July 4th with the Blue Angels and the Stealth bomber among other things. I was the ice man, rushing to keep all the food vendor booths stocked up on ice from the ice truck...Great memory!
