My Weird Experience

#1
Yazata Offline
For years, every time I walked down my street I passed my neighbor's house where his beautiful Irish setter would often be by the fence. We got to know each other and the dog and I would greet each other. But as time went on the dog got older and developed that white faced look old dogs get. She would often be lying down and didn't feel like getting up when I called out to her.

Then one day she was missing. And she remained missing for several months, until one day when I walked by, there she was by the gate. I called out to her that I had missed her and she just looked at me. I continued walking and when I returned she once again was gone.

It was only later that I discovered that she had died several months before when she first disappeared.

It's possible that my memory is playing tricks, but I remember seeing her vividly. She seemed entirely material and not the least bit etherial.

I still walk by and look for her, but I only saw her that once.

You had a paranormal encounter Yazata! Very rare! Cherish that and let it marinate in your worldview. There is more to reality than meets the eye.

I wonder if our minds fill in 'gaps' because we are familiar with someone or something, and since you've been walking past your neighbor's house 'for years,' it could be that your mind filled in the gap of seeing the dog where you always saw her (despite several months passing), but she wasn't really there. It can happen in the reverse too, for example, you commute to work along the same route every day, and one day you car pool with someone who points out along the way, an unusual red building with a purple door. You have passed that building every day for months, but it wasn't important to you, so you never ''noticed'' it. Yet, it had always been there.

Or, it could be what MR said. ^_^

It was both. Weird supervenes on non-weird causes. Weird has environmental correlates, even neural correlates if nothing exterior is a sufficient source for an illusory perception or the spurring of a mistaken interpretation.

May not apply and I’m no expert but....

Don’t think you can shrug it off as simply a paranormal experience. There are several reasons one can hallucinate, most of them not good. Could be early stages of a mental disorder so might be worth checking out. Was reading an article this morning re seeing things not there, was going to link it but I figure best for individual to check out.

Made me think that there may be many folks out there seeing things but not realizing it’s a health problem. When it’s a nice story vs reality, the paranormal solution is more tolerable plus you gain some notoriety. Would you rather see a ghost or have a medical problem?

Two potential variations:

1: You actually drempt it and remember the dream.
2: A Doppelgänger. (or is that Hunddoppel?)

The latter I wouldn't put to some mysticism or "paranormal", but actually a potential side effect of science. If any researchers are conducting research into creating Paradoxes/Parallels, then it is possible that a Butterfly Effect can occur where some things are moved out of sync/position or altered.

e.g.
A researcher gains a favorable result which is a paradox to the universe where the result was null. The time taken to write up the research takes 10 minutes longer than the null result, so they leave the lab 10 minutes later. The earlier one misses the rush hour traffic, the latter one ends up stuck in a jam and speeds to gain a recovery. The earlier one passes the dog sat at the gate, the other hits the dog as it runs out to make friends with a kid across the street.

You in a multiworlds state walk down the road and see the dog, but when you turn around it is gone. (The dogs state in this case is more cat... Schroedingers Cat)

You might conclude that such research is impossible, but am I "jan ken" your chain. (Janken robot is a clue to how it might be possible to make deviations in observable decisions.)

My hunch is that Yazata saw a residual phantom that had been recorded somehow in the electromagnetic configuration of that location. Somehow that stored place memory gets triggered to replay the past event of the dog waiting at the fence. Perhaps it is triggered by Yazata's mental state of looking for the dog. It's not an uncommon occurrence in paranormal investigations of old places to turn up events such as these. I had a friend in the Navy tell me he and his friends spent the night in an abandoned old house and heard footsteps repeatedly occurring overhead upstairs. He said as soon as the footsteps reached the end, they would repeat again from the same spot they started in over and over again like a tape being replayed.

Strangest event I ever experienced actually didn’t belong to me. Had a friend visit from west coast who had never been to Ontario before. He sat beside me as I drove some Northern Ontario road in the countryside. On one stretch he started telling me what to expect when we rounded a corner up ahead, from a billboard/sign to a few houses, he got them exactly right. Personally I don’t remember ever describing that area to him but it doesn’t discount that my wife or another friend had. He says no, never been there before nor has anyone mentioned it to him. The only other thought I had was that this particular stretch of road was perhaps on a video he once watched and his memory clicked in. Although it was weird I still think there’s a logical explanation.
