Army Commissions Tooth-Phones - Yazata - Sep 11, 2018 It's a tiny invisible microphone/speaker that clips to a rear molar. It picks up a person's voice and conducts sound to their ear through their tooth and skull. They say that it's especially good for extremely noisy environments. https://www.defenseone.com/technology/2018/09/military-now-has-tooth-mics-invisible-hands-free-radio-calls/151145/ It's called 'Molar Mic' manufactured by a company called Sonitus Technologies, in San Mateo not far from my home! http://www.sonitustechnologies.com/sonitus-technologies-wins-multi-million-dollar-dod-award-for-molar-mic/ http://www.sonitustechnologies.com/ It's a project of the Department of Defense's very cool Defense Innovation Unit, kind of a venture capital firm for outside-the-box military technology. https://diux.mil/portfolio RE: Army Commissions Tooth-Phones - C C - Sep 11, 2018 Quote:The same technology holds the potential for far more rich biometric communication between operators and their commanders, allowing soldiers in the field and their team to get a timely sense of how the soldier is responding to pressure or injury, without him or her having to communicate all of that explicitly. Aww, cute story, C C. It reminded me of this little sad animation. That’s us, you know. That’s what we’re going to get stuck with. |
