In psychiatric parlance they are known as "voices". The thing is they are half dependent and half independent. They are only sentient of what I am thinking about, often scolding me for thinking too much. They also express their own intentions and desires to me. They are my little buddha-masters in a way. They also provide me a social outlet for affection and amusement when real people aren't around.
