A drunk guy assaulted one of these security robots as it was patrolling a corporate parking lot, knocking it over. Apparently that caused it to call for backup.

Giving them voting rights wouldn't be completely necessary in terms of opportunists profiting politically from them (just as perpetual illegal immigrants have nevertheless attracted the interest of such "issue parasites" for decades).

But lawyers (if not the above career administrators) would desire robots being granted other legal rights of personhood as soon as possible, to accommodate another angle of exploitation. Litigation stemming from just the "damage to property" side has a "corporation slavery" stench about it which means a shorter term period for looting by lawyers in that territory, before it acquires stigma. (Not that law firms would ever stop playing both business and social-activism to the hilt, but aiding "slave-owners" would still be negative publicity).

This is a bad sign..... Assigning human qualities to machines. Once that starts then robots, whether with consciousness or not, will become humanized. So one day when a robot assaults a human, who do we arrest/fine/sue/incarcerate...the machine or its creator?

The DC "Swamp" is worse than even I thought (and that's bad).

One of these security robots was assigned to patrol in DC, and the robot chose to drown itself instead! Understandable.

Apparently it drove into a fountain. There wasn't any barrier between the sidewalk and the fountain and there were actually little steps leading down into the water. So it looks like whatever sensors the robot has to detect obstacles and objects in front of it weren't triggered, until it found itself going down the steps and toppling into the water/swamp.

Local coffee shop, big boarded up hole in exterior wall, human did not sense car was in reverse and depressed gas pedal. Just saying a technical robotic glitch can be fixed but the tell is that the person who backed thru the cafe wall had previously driven forwards through another business' wall a few months previous.

I’m heading out of town and staying at a hotel that has a robot. Yay! No tipping required.

For some reason it reminds me of that mail robot prowling the corridors of the FBI headquarters in "The Americans".

Everyone raves about that show.  I haven't seen it.  I'll put it on my to do list. 

My son is on his way back to the states.  He'll finish out the remainder of his time here.  He has a four hour layover.  So, I'm meeting him there to hang out with him while he waits. My time in purgatory is almost up. Yay! I'm so excited.
