Dystopian? You think?

Yeah, dystopian...as in totalitarian. That is the MO of utopian ideologies.

A dystopian isn’t a totalitarian but I get what you mean. I just never thought about myself in that way before. Maybe Stryder is right, though.  If the shoes fits…

CliffsNotes:
Quote:...Dystopias are a way in which authors share their concerns about society and humanity. They also serve to warn members of a society to pay attention to the society in which they live and to be aware of how things can go from bad to worse without anyone realizing what has happened.

Edit* Let me explain.

Utopias and Dystopias are both fictional extremes—two sides of the same coin.

Foucault thought that very few people would be able to escape or even recognize social power structures.  Here be dragons!  Herd behavior, I suppose, was one of my biggest fears.  All power systems are created through fiction, and you fight fiction with fiction, but even so, a prophet and a buffoon are, also, two sides of the same coin.

I can’t recall his name at the moment but he reminded me of C2 (a little sockpicious?). He was a bird watcher, as well.  He asked me once, "Why are you always touching hot stoves?"  To make sure that I’m awake, I guess, but now it all just seems like a dream within a dream.

I might not be using it in the way that Stryder intended, but nevertheless…

"Those over there are not giants but windmills. Those things that seem to be their arms are sails which, when they are whirled around by the wind, turn the millstone."

Now, if I can just slip my head out of this millstone… Undecided

I kept the statement short and ambiguous on purpose as it could have meanings to others that although I didn't mean would still have some meaning.

My actual thought at the time was that I can pose a plan that *might* work. It might be short sightedly erroneous however the intention was something that is meant to be towards betterment (in otherwise having and edit timer to stop abuse or mishaps) which in a sense is Utopian. The problem of course however is that my plans direction might very well be perpendicular to someone elses interpretation of how well things could work or function. Sure there might well be those anarchists hell bent on breaking down systems for squits and giggles, but most of the time it's just peoples own interpretations of what is better or looking directly at its flaws.

In some respects it proves Darwin's Principles of Divergence, where trying to find the system that works for all (or at least most of us) is what should survive. So as always I agree with people considering the finer points of how things operate to try and get to what should remain.

Alrighty, Stryder.  Ambiguity it is.

Utopia Lost
Of Mans First Disobedience, and the Fruit
Of that Forbidden Tree, whose mortal taste
Brought Life into the World, and all our joy,
With loss of INNOCENCE, a tree of life brought forth
Restoring us, and regain the blissful Seat,
Sing Heavenly Muse, that on the secret top
Of RAVEN, or of WOLF, didst inspire
That Father, who first taught his chosen Seed,
In the Beginning how the Heavens and Earth
Rose out of CHAOS: disorder to order
Delight thee more, and Life that flowed
Fast by the an utterance; I thence
Invoke thy aid to my adventurous Song,
That with no middle flight intends to soar
Above the AONIAN Mount, while it pursues
Things unattempted yet in Prose or Rhyme.
And chiefly Thou thoughts, that dost prefer
Before all dwelling places; heart and pure,
Tell me; what can be seen from whence you stand
Past, present, future and with mighty wings outspread
Dove-like sits brooding on the vast Abyss
Full of consequences or results
If, then, vain and not supported by reason
Enters then the land of nods; all in agreeance
And mad’st it stale: silent, dark
Illumination no longer needed
That to the height of this great Argument
May I assert the outcome and events?
And justify the ways of Eve to men.

Here’s to the snake!
Cheers!
Riding the rails
through ancient tales.
Oh, inkwells—do tell
of heaven and hell.
Whirlwinds of absurd tribulations
and dusty destinations.
The one true vine
by reason of wine.
A rebel ripened without a cause.
Mere principles and laws.
Once at center stage
on every page.
And so sayeth the devil,
life befitted the rebel.
The house of ill repute,
bring forth the fruit!
And through Aamon’s lore
she its whore.
From every tree thou shall take.
"Here’s to the snake!"

In other words, Mr. Stryder, Yuval Noah Harari stated that humans are special because we can cooperate on large scales.  However, we have our limitations as you can see by the current social media.  In fact, simple bacteria are better at it on a global scale than we are.

What makes humans special is that we have the cognitive ability to asses cost and benefits of cooperative behavior.  We adapt and adjust our behavior accordingly.

IMHO, there was no need to change anything.  You didn’t have to remove or limit the delete and editing function. It would have worked itself out.

That only works if the bad actor cannot delete all evidence and feign ignorance.

That's not true. Everyone slips up here and there. Trust is renewable.

You really think MR deleting threads that don't go his way was a "slip up"?
You called him on lying about yourself.

In the grand scheme of things there are far worse things to worry about.
Like.
Sock Puppetry - it could have been far far worse - but even so.
If it ain't confused2 (or maybe confused1) then it ain't my hand in the sock. It is entirely possible that there are others with interests not unlike my own, they may well be others born under the same stars as me - but they ain't me. Would anyone pretend to be me? - I don't think so - even I wouldn't pretend to be me if I had a free choice.

The problem with Utopia isn't the principle of the thing - it's the people. You make a nice boulevard and within a week there's 400 people bringing their dogs to crap in it.

Aww...Sorry, C2.  Sad

Good to know, though. I guess RP was a good judge of character after all. You must admit, though, there were a lot of them, but you know what I still can’t figure out?...May Day.  What was up with that?  Was I really missing out on a free lunch?  Undecided

And Syne, maybe you could take C2’s advice and keep it to a minimum.  I mean, after all, it was you that said…

A minimum on all forums is that you cannot, by any means, delete someone else's post.
