"The Pentagon released what it called “new, never-before-seen” files on U.F.O.s on Friday, hailing the step as an example of the commitment of the department, which kicked out reporters earlier this year, to transparency.

“No other president or administration in history has followed through on this level of U.A.P. transparency,” the Pentagon said in a news release, referring to what the Defense Department calls unidentified anomalous phenomena but what most people call U.F.O.s, or unidentified flying objects.

The collection is being “housed,” the release said, at war.gov/ufo. Files will be released on a rolling basis.

The initial files are murky still images that show what could be anything. In one, a cluster of dots appear on the screen. In another, there are some strangely shaped objects.

President Trump on social media framed the release as fulfilling a promise to the public: “Whereas previous Administrations have failed to be transparent on this subject, with these new Documents and Videos, the people can decide for themselves, “WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?””

In 2017 The New York Times reported that the Pentagon had a secret and classified program, which began in 2007, that investigated reports of unidentified flying objects. Since then, there has been a push from lawmakers for the government to declassify its work on U.F.O.s.

Former representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, Republican of Georgia, took to social media to deride the release, calling it “‘look at the shiny object’ propaganda” while the administration waged foreign wars.

The Department of War says:

Trump’s directive for transparency on U.S. government information regarding Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP), the Department of War (DOW), with support from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI), is overseeing government wide efforts to expeditiously find, review, identify, declassify and publicly release unresolved UAP-related records and historical documents in the federal government’s possession. This is an unprecedented, historic undertaking that requires coordination between dozens of agencies and the review of tens of millions of records, many existing only on paper, spanning many decades. Given the scope of this task, the Department of War will be releasing new materials on a rolling basis as they are discovered and declassified, with tranches posted every few weeks.

The materials archived here are unresolved cases, meaning the government is unable to make a definitive determination on the nature of the observed phenomena. This can occur for a variety of reasons, including a lack of sufficient data, and the Department of War welcomes the application of private-sector analysis, information and expertise. DOW will continue to conduct separate reporting on resolved UAP cases, as mandated by statute. Under this Administration, we will pursue the truth and share our findings with the American people.

Some of this is pretty amazing. Here's one report, out of many, that apparently originated out of Area 51 or some place like that, given the references to mountains and heavy redactions of the site name where this occurred, what testing was occurring, and why 'senior intelligence officials' were there in the first place.

Outstanding. And it confirms everything the head of the AARO Dr. Sean Kirkpatrick told Congress about these orbs a few years ago--that they are from 1 to 4 meters in diameter, appear metallic, travel at speeds of up to mach 2, maneuver in very interesting ways, and are being seen all over the world. Apparently they have the ability to become brightly illuminated and even plasmoid, raising the question once again, "What the hell are we dealing with here?"

While that seems to be about a specific incident and location in 2025, last year this headline was a circulating around about general orb encounters, albeit of the metallic rather than glowing kind.

A record over 8,000 UFO sightings were reported across the U.S. from December 2022 to June 2025, with 422 describing metallic orbs near military bases. The Pentagon's AARO logged 757 UFO cases between May 2023 and June 2024, with 21 remaining unresolved and many involving unexplained metallic orbs. Experts theorize the metallic orbs could be advanced foreign surveillance drones due to their agility, radar evasion, and proximity to sensitive U.S. infrastructure.

The standard defensive party line of all the sciency skeptics like Neil DeGrasse Tyson and NASA officials is already hitting the newcasts: "But...but..there is no evidence of extraterrestrials visiting our planet!" That's becoming an increasingly precarious line to toe what with thousands of uaps that are filmed and witnessed defying gravity and performing instantaneous acceleration/stops/changes of direction. But heck...when your whole glamorous career rides on an increasingly doubtful anthropocentric worldview where only humans are believed to exist, I guess you HAVE to keep repeating it like it were some absolute truth or perhaps a religious mantra. Like it even really matters anymore.
