Using the latest data, global CO2 emissions from fossil fuels averaged about 36 GtCO₂ per year [1] from 2013 to 2023 and the observed rate of CO2 concentration increase has been around 2 ppm per year [2]
The 2ppm (16 GtCo2) per year [3] increase means roughly 36-16 = 20 GtCo2 per year is being removed by natural processes.
So atmospheric CO2 will keep rising unless our output is halved or the planet is encouraged to double the rate it removes CO2. Neither seems likely.
