Agree! It has that same feel, just a different backdrop. So, how do you like it so far?

This is a good take, although I didn't hate the ending of the first installment's series finale. Super far-fetched, but it left an opening for a reasonable continuation.

I like it enough as filler viewing that I'm somewhat dreading the possibility of this being the only season. When news of Dexter's return first came out, I thought there was initial talk of it being a single season, with Dexter finally receiving his just deserts at the end. (IOW, New Blood would be little more than a repair job for the original ending of the series.)

That could be a false memory on my part, or since production commenced it may have evolved away from that, so that it's no longer mentioned. Or they don't want to give it away that he either croaks or gets imprisoned in the season finale.

Is it just me, or does the ''other'' killer's eyes/eyebrows resemble Clancy Brown's? In other news, didn't realize he did the voice over for Mr. Krabs, from ''Spongebob.'' lol

I felt like they distinctly tried to make it seem like it was him behind the "mask", too.

And as another potential red-herring (or not) -- due to Hollywood's depiction of those types as the bad guys in the past...

There's the "climate-change denying" Edward Olsen that Angela's daughter Audrey was arguing with on the road. (In my newbie, catch-up state at the time, I previously confused Caldwell -- the trucking mogul and "mayor" -- with being the oil magnate, when the latter is actually Olsen.)

On one hand, the seeming manipulation of faintly suggesting either character is the "one" would seem to exclude them. But then again, the writers might really be inept or not care in that regard.

That's funny you say this, because at first I was like meh...I guess they need to tie up loose ends with this ''limited series,'' but now, I'm hopeful that it's not so limited. Watching Dexter get all existentialist on us is rather endearing. lol

I had binged Dexter over a few months a couple of years ago, after the series had ended. I don't recall Showtime as the streaming network, didn't realize they kicked off the series?

Some confusion might stem from CBS featuring first season reruns of "Dexter" in 2008, due to the writer's strike. It could do that because it owned Showtime when "Dexter" debuted on the latter in 2006, as well as up until 2019, when Showtime returned to its original Viacom ownership.

Reruns of "Dexter" were on Netflix at one time, of course -- and maybe sporadically elsewhere.

Episode 4: "H Is for Hero"

Seems a little too straightforward so far, like they're not even bothering with twists.

Still hoping for a trick play or two, though.

Harrison already predictably setting up to be his father's successor, after the latter probably receives his Big Termination by the 10th episode. (I doubt now that there will be more seasons.)

Caldwell firmly linked to the cabin in the woods. Perhaps, wanting no further investigation because it might graze against his own psycho shenanigans -- as well as Dexter/Deb's own speculations about his unreal claims.

Still hoping for a trick play or two, though.

For the time being, I perceive her as an alternative to the "Code of Harry", or a more ordinary moral compass.

The abstract "Code of Harry" -- that Dexter also personified in his mind as his adopted father -- served the purpose of detouring his killer urges into a more constructive channel (albeit still unlawful and immoral). Inherent in the code, however, was the conviction that he could never have a fully normal life, could not eliminate the homicidal urge. There was only controlling it and directing it at other fiends.

After he said goodbye to inner Harry toward the end of Season 8 (I can't recall the reasons), perhaps Debra eventually came to personify his renewed ambition to have a normal life. The old code of Harry and Volger was an obstacle to that (though he still finds its tenets useful). Whereas, imaginary Debra served as an ordinary guidebook (the kind normal people have) to keep him in line, while still potentially allowing and encouraging pursuit and maintenance of an ordinary life.

That might be because she's a normal person's moral compass, judging events more through an emotional filter rather than the methodically detached one of Harry and Vogel's system. In a way, she's brought Dexter closer to feeling or experiencing what he is, rather than being limited to only a conceptual or intellectual understanding of himself as a monster.

At this point I'm merely guessing that he's grown afraid (for some reason) that a continued investigation might accidentally intrude upon his own nefarious handiwork, along with the two possibilities that Dexter himself considered (via imaginary Deb).

I binged the first installment a few years back...I'm not a fan of having to waaaaait every week for the next episode. Dodgy

I caught up with this series over the weekend, and it's more suspenseful than I recall the first installment. Dexter might actually get caught this time. Unless he murders literally everyone who is catching on. lol

The "saga" will definitely be over in five more episodes. Glad now that I'm watching it weekly rather than waiting till the season ended to binge watch. Since I would otherwise have probably encountered a finale spoiler via the buzz.
