Site future: Brainstorming phase

I would like to be able to view recent activity and today's posts without having to login because sometimes I’m using my phone or even someone else’s device.

I don’t like the look of the current font displayed in italic. When I feel the need to use it, I usually change that portion of the font to Georgia because it’s easier on the eyes.

I would also like a section in the new members thread under important threads that we could direct them to in order to show them how to use the BB codes. It’s often difficult to indicate how it functions because when you’re typing it, it defaults to the actual function. One way that you could do this would be to display a snapshot like so.

The recent posts/threads links should be made more prominent as in not having to scroll down to the bottom of a page (that could be just the way my browser renders things, though.)
In your User CP>Your Profile>Edit Options, if you set Default Thread Subscription Mode to "No notification", it will just populate your subscription list: https://www.scivillage.com/usercp.php?ac...scriptions

Even in a "no notifications" and disabled state, my subscription list actually has a lot going on it in, apparently. But like SS I swing by a majority of the time without being signed in (automatically clear cookies & browser data after each session on the web, anyhow). That may be why I rarely visit my user account except when there's a PM alert or I change an avatar -- I'm used to either glancing over the board itself or "Recent activity" so much, due to lack of being logged-in.

Judging from the initial samples of the apparent switchover, though, the font size of "Georgia" -- or whatever the "new one" is -- needs to be increased. What's italicized is tiny compared to the rest of the text.

Krike, I never considered how "unreadable" some of our choices for font colors in individual posts might be with a different default background color or a customizable option in member's accounts for that.

Hey, Stryder, this isn't working for me anymore:

It might be nice if there was a native "mark whole forum as read" link, but since I made my own, it's not necessary (as long as that's still possible in any new forum software).

Well, it is, but the "my_post_key" value seems to be changing, so it only works if I keep updating the link address. Any way we can get back to a static value for that....or a "mark all read" button?

The "Mark Forum Read" button has been reinstated at the bottom of the page (below the statistics section) It's possible that part of the update involved quashing various Xscript issues where "my_post_key" was being ignored.

Thanks, Stryder!

I thought it looked like there used to be something between the Log Out and Forum Statistics dividers.

As you'll notice, I've been editing the postbit (That's the themeing around the posts). Currently I'm not 100% sure where to go with it, although I am considering on how to allow it to be a bit more customisable.

Currently I've managed to add an identifier into a class, so each user has their own template class name (.poster_uid where uid is replaced with a users number) . This could well mean custom colours and font on a user basis, or a way to hide a particular poster from a thread. (i.e. .post .poster_uid { display:none; } )

If you feel the username font is wrong, or the wrong size etc on the postbit, please feel free to tell me. It's still up for decision making.

Just my humble opinion. In a text forum the text that is posted is 'the thing'. I kind'a like the avatar attached to each post because that becomes the face of the person posting. In an ideal world the minimum height of a short post might tend towards the height of the avatar. Beyond that just who and the tech stuff for replying is all that (I think) is needed. The more posts that fit on a page the easier it is to join a thread without repetion, deviation or irrelevence.

I know how you mean. The reason for the intitial change was to see what does or does not work.

I'm with you on the idea that the posts themselves are the content, everything else is just decoration. So having the décor outweigh the post isn't in its best interest. I did consider trying to create a large watermark of the username in the background, so it speeds up the way to visibly identify the post while not necessarily overwhelming with decoration, however it's one of those things that's going to get tinkered with a little before it gets that Goldielocks "Zzz" moment.
