Minneapolis leaders want to ‘dismantle’ police departments despite 551 rapes in 2019

Isn’t abolishing the police to decriminalize a city actually criminal?

What does your constitution have to say about it? My understanding is that that would be your governing law.

Police unions may be the sole barrier to the deranged ideology and reality impairment of some of these cities. Of course, they're blocking radical "reforms", budget cuts, and outright elimination to protect their members rather than save neighborhoods from the total rule of gang-lords. But the effect is the same.

Literally (seems strange saying "literally" with respect to a metaphor) throwing the baby out with the bathwater.
Reminded me of this, which is a fairly simplistic and rather comedic video at face value, but upon further reflection begins to resemble a philosophical onion:

I think that it's preferrable to delegate law enforcement to professional law enforcement officers.

The danger is that the "small number of individuals" equipped to use lethal force might threaten to enslave everyone else, if the public has no ability to resist.

So I support both the Second Amendment and the police.

Quote:If/when the population at large loses faith in the police then maybe guns on the street are the only answer.

Yes, I think that all sane people know that if police departments are dismantled, the rule of law will disappear too.

Which is ironic in the case of the (grossly misnamed) "liberals" who believe that the answer to every social problem is to enact new laws restricting what law abiding people can and can't do. But if there's no law enforcement, no downside for ignoring their countless and constantly multiplying laws, why will anyone pay any attention to them?

I expect that the very same Minneapolis local politicians who called for eliminating the police are also in favor of strict covid mask laws. (Which are very trendy with the coronafascists.) Well, who is going to enforce those laws? What if everyone ignores them? The Minneapolis city council would seem to have just put itself out of business, if its votes have no force outside the council chamber.

And once the rule of law disappears, everyone will be responsible for protecting themselves. All while the social predators feel free to do anything they like. That collision will inevitably lead not only to bloodshed but to a vastly decreased sense of personal security.

So businesses and residents will flee the city en-masse and Minneapolis will become an impoverished ghost town filled with decaying vacant office towers and streets full of empty looted stores. Of course the city politicians will blame everyone but themselves for their city's collapse into a hellhole. Assuming that a would-be local warlord hasn't already taken over city hall and shot them all.

Great post, Yaz. I especially like "coronafascists". Did you coin that?

The other plus side to getting rid of the police (aside from ignoring leftist policies/laws) is that criminals would face immediate, and likely deadly, consequences for the slightest threat or provocation...with the subsequent deterrence. Communities would go back to having their own militias and citizen police forces. So instead of state and city police, authority would devolve to the lowest levels of community government. Businesses and HOAs would have to hire armed guards, the private security industry would boom. And leftists who hate guns on principle would be terrorized until reality disabuses them of that notion. IOW, everything would move rightward, the pendulum having swung far too far to be sustainable.
