New Subforum: Survivalism

Due to the current level of the worlds hysteria and the fact that we are going to be forced to find one or other way to survive. It's my privilege to welcome a new subforum to the site.

I ask that you post things that are useful to aid yourselves and others in these rather trying times. Such as:

How to make Hardtack.

What to do when you only have one toilet roll.

According to something I once saw involving the Royal Marines and survival:

Quote:Using one Sheet of toilet paper, tear a circle out of the centre big enough to insert your index finger through. Poke your finger through and well I'm sure you can guess where that paper shrouded finger is destined (*hint* your bottom). Lift the sheet edges up around the finger and twist to clean the finger up while removing the used sheet. Use the bit your teared off to clean under your fingernail... Job done. That should increase the amount of usage you get from one roll in these trying times.

Make sure you have containers (old jam jars, butter/ice cream tubs etc.) After all if you need something that you can't source from a shop in a packet, you might need to ask someone for some and you'll need something to store it in.

Boy Scouts have the same method except instead of paper they use leaves. No shortages of that natural resource so lack of TP shouldn’t be a problem for awhile.

Always cannibalism if things get really tough. Most people have read ‘Alive’ but the story of Andes plane crash survivors pales against what the citizens of Stalingrad faced in WWII. If you want to read about a time when survival combined with desperation, then I’d seriously advise reading ‘Enemy at the Gates’. It’s paints a much different picture than the movie.

The rest of the world has Anglo-Saxon culture beat when it comes to being without TP. They don't even need the superfluous French invention of the bidet. Back in the 70s and early 80s, Styrofoam cups partially filled with water were a common sight on the floors of US restrooms frequented by Middle Eastern students and workers.

And the Russians as well. Their average pay public toilets often don't provide that sandpaper-like stuff that serves as Slavic TP, anyway. The customer is expected to either bring their own or just tough it. (Situation can improve dramatically at elite hotels and shopping centers, etc.)
