And lack of metal rules out the torsion spring of a garage door, which might look that tight. The springs used on some ordinary doors would be omitted for the same reason.

Ha... i have 5 old phones/cords like that still in use... an the one in the pic is new an the loops are that tight.!!!

Common item... hard to guess... eh Smile

Another good one. I don't know if the low brightness of the image was intentional or not, but that obscured even the neighborhood of its classification and shape at the start. Took a look at a 30+ year-old phone a bit ago and there was one area in the middle of the cord where the coils still clung together tight like that. The rest was drooping loose like a wilted vegetable plant under a hot sun.

Heres the original... before it was cropped an the angle changed... an its a bit dark but not intentional (it may look darker on you'r screen???).!!!

With the lighter background, it looks immediately like a telephone cord there. Once that and the curved edges are snipped away, the blackest part of the cord becomes the "new" background and the bluish reflection boot-shaped parts become the "object[s]" standing out in it.

I'll have to pass on this awhile so somebody else can at least get a chance at it. Never seen hubby's attack him or rise-up menacingly like that one did Finchley on an episode of that Serling show, but you never know around Halloween... Wink

Wonders could be done on mildly blurring or obscuring it with an image editor, but you've got the right idea. Stick to the honest techniques.

Isn't that something? As it stands, probably the only item I had brains enough to hang onto from "Before The Days Of Engineered Obsolescence" is an early 1970s freezer that won't quit, which was indirectly passed down to me. But eventually I'm going to run out of effective threats for quickly aborting suggestions like the following...

Hubby: "Look at it. It's accumulated all these scars, dents, and discolorations and it's just getting downright ugly on the outside. This isn't like one of those beat-up acoustic guitars of Willie Nelson that increase another thousand dollars in value everytime he accidentally knocks another quarter-sized hole in them. We need to replace it with something new from this century."

Arrgggh...

In my garage is an electric lug nut remover (a favorite tool when i rotated tires twice a year on 5 vehicles)... but no... not a lug nut tool.!!!

Wit this item... normaly... it only needs adjustment (slower-faster) when its initially installed.!!!
The 2 that i curently own (an installed) are at least 30 years old an still work like new.!!!
I guess the glue holdin that label on for over 30 years finaly let loose... an a light breeze blowin thru my storm door screen caused it to float to the middle of my kitchen floor.!!!

No... but 1 of the links you posted showed somethin that looks like it.!!!

Is it a pneumatic device on a storm door?
