Since about 6 PM PDT. (Its headquarters is in San Bruno, not too far from where I am now, and I bet that they are all running around screeching like crazed monkeys.

The Philadelphia Police say that theirs is down too, so don't call 911, they can't fix it:

Reports are coming in from places like Uruguay and Zimbabwe that Youtube won't play for them either.

It's been less than two hours and the whole world is freaking out!

It's working again!!

I guess this is what they say about modern life. Everything happens faster and faster. The Youtube outage only lasted two hours (assuming it really is back up for real) and the whole world had a collective freak-out. In every country! Simultaneously!

Everyone was staring at their cell phone, and suddenly one of the main things they stare at wasn't there! Enough to make any cell-phone zombie start lusting after human brains.

Probably a healthy sign that I didn't notice.

Man, Pablo really gets around.

I thought they had changed their "hidden tracking cookie" settings which is why the video's didn't load. I was trying to view something at the time, and with some mucking about I was able to view the video's only by "allowing" certain domains/cookies that I usually block.

It's known that Google currently has two things on their plate:
They are closing Google+ down in the sense that it won't be tied to Youtube accounts (or used to track anymore)
There was a recent piece in regards to how they tracked people without their consent which is a legislative nightmare with certain countries.

What this basically means is a bit of a shake up in how they operate. As with most businesses, if the legislation becomes too much hassle, it's simpler just to pull the plug (and ultimately cheaper considering the number of "fines" otherwise handed out for not doing it right)

So it's likely the changes they are attempting to make in the background to remove those features (and stop any future fines) is likely what caused the system downtime.
