Max Size Directive?

#1

I just tried to post to the 'what killed the space program' thread.

I got an error message that said that my post exceeded the max size directive, and the post's content was lost.

So I rewrote the post and tried saving a draft of it. It wouldn't do that either and gave me the same error message and my second post was lost.

I'm not up for a third try.

There was nothing extraordinary about the posts. All text, no images or links. Not very long either, just a few paragraphs.

I tried again and this time I saved a copy of my post in my browser.

The same 'max size' thing happened again, but when I clicked on the black 'new post' button and copied my third try from my browser to that screen, for some reason it took.

That sounds odd. We did have a recent update, I'll have to check to see if any changes were made to Max Size etc.  Hopefully I will find a solution, if of course I can replicate the problem.

Edit: I'm still in the process of looking however my hunch is it's due to a limitation on the number of nested quotes from previous posts. The original limit was 5, it only effects posts that were created using the quote button, if a person manually adds the quotes in (or used the quick reply) then it bypasses the check.

I've increased the limitation to 10 nested quotes (although I doubt there will be need to quote a quote that has been quoted 9 times before.
I've also increased the Character limit for post, from a mere 65,535 characters to 16,777,215 characters (although if a post reaches 8mb in size it will likely get cut by a different limit) Unless you are writing a post worthy of Tolstoy that isn't going to be a problem.
