7 percent of Australia's Catholic priests accused of sexually abusing children

EXCERPT: Seven percent of priests in the Australian Catholic Church have been accused of sexually abusing children between 1950 and 2010, according to a new report released Monday. The report from Australia’s Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse, which since 2013 has been investigating how the Catholic church and others have responded to abuse, says 4,444 people had reported being sexually abused at more than 1,000 Catholic institutions across Australia between 1980 and 2015. Victims’ ages averaged 10.5 years old for girls and 11.5 years old for boys. Most survivors were male, the study said; schools and homes for children were the places children were most likely to experience abuse....

4,444 victims: extent of abuse in Catholic church in Australia revealed

EXCERPT: [...] Up to 15% of priests in some dioceses were alleged perpetrators between 1950 and 2015, with abusers most prevalent in the dioceses of Sale and Sandhurst in Victoria, Port Pirie in South Australia, and Lismore and Wollongong in New South Wales. The numbers were even worse in some national Catholic orders. By far the worst was the order of the St John of God Brothers, where a staggering 40% of religious brothers are believed to have abused children.

Twenty-two per cent of Christian Brothers and 20% of Marist Brothers, both orders that run schools, were alleged perpetrators. More than one in five priests in the Benedictine community of New Norcia were alleged perpetrators, while 17.2% of clergy were accused of crimes against children in the Salesians of Don Bosco order....

Simply amazing that the paedophiles can find each other or that they know where to get the best hunting results, yet the churches haven't figured it out. There has to be a network out there connecting these perverts.

Years ago I went to find some jokes online. It's just something I do on occasion. I went to this joke site and started reading, I got through 6 pages of them and decided to look at one more. Well page 7 turned out to be a chat line between child molesters. In fact every page after that  consisted of conversations between one molester and another. A child molester's private conference room in disguise. Very graphic and sickening language. I got scared just being on it, thinking every police agency in the world was watching. I sent the website name over to the local PD. Never heard a word but the site disappeared shortly after.

The discourse transpiring on a hidden place like that would be a real / authentic reflection of those predators.

Even the way they reciprocally, venomously attack crusaders against pedophilia on the comment sections of some "normal" sites that venture into that topic range is a tad scary in terms of categorization. The Social Justice Warriors in those cases seem to often be inverted and cast as religious prudes or conservatives (whether they are or not) by the child-pornsters. Or the latter depict themselves as being the SJWs and the politically correct side. As if pedophiles literally expect folk of the southpaw spectrum to eventually be intellectually seduced into supporting them, via the efforts of organizations like NAMBLA. Doesn't help when fringe wonks in the psycho-social sciences occasionally output papers doing just that.

But OTOH, the political neo-hipsters of the (pseudo)Alt-Right are renown for faking extremist views and impersonating whackos. Just to get public exposure to the real aims they are pushing via drawing the attentions of the SJWs (which they regard as being easy to bait via such strategies). Which is to say, some of the child-pornsters feuding with others on those (non-illegal) sites could be imposters also, as well as their rhetoric.

Benjy Sarlin: “I had to get SJWs talking about us,” Cis said.

A favorite tactic was to direct Trump fans to push deliberately dumb or offensive posts to the front page of Reddit and then laugh at the backlash when users took them seriously. Sanders, and his legion of earnest Reddit fans, became one favorite target as r/The_Donald relentlessly promoted posts mocking the senator’s debate comment that white voters ”don’t know what it’s like to be poor,” to name one of Cis’ favorite examples.

[...] Anything that branded the subreddit in opposition to the cultural left drew the attention of anti-PC Redditors, who recognized the site’s prankish ethos as their own even if they had no prior interest in Trump and didn’t think of themselves as conventional conservatives. Whenever the site turned up on groups like r/AgainstHateSubreddits that oppose offensive speech, Cis celebrated. He fanned the flames by sending outlandish messages to left-leaning forums demanding they stop talking about r/The_Donald, which of course had the opposite effect.
--How an army of pro-Donald Trump trolls are taking over Reddit

Mencius Moldbug: "If you spend 75 years building a pseudo-religion around anything—an ethnic group, a plaster saint, sexual chastity or the Flying Spaghetti Monster—don’t be surprised when clever 19-year-olds discover that insulting it is now the funniest ####ing thing in the world."

Benjamin Wallace-Wells: The alt-right often seems to be testing the strength of the speech taboos that revolve around conventional politics—of what can be said, and how directly. Can you insist that science supports racial differences in intelligence? Can you threaten rape? Can you Photoshop an image of a Jewish reporter who has written critically about the Trumps so that she appears to be in a concentration camp? How far can you go? It is easy to notice the flood of Nazi imagery that has been tweeted from anonymous accounts at reporters, and harder to determine how many people are sending these images. Even the most careful reporting into the less crude edges of the movement usually has to resort to calling the alt-right’s influential voices by their message-board monikers (CisWhiteMaelstrom, JCM267) rather than by their real names. --Is the Alt-Right for Real?

Andrew Marantz: The alt-right has no consistent ideology; it is a label, like “snob” or “hipster,” that is often disavowed by people who exemplify it. The term typically applies to conservatives and reactionaries who are active on the Internet and too anti-establishment to feel at home in the Republican Party. Bizarrely, this category includes the Republican nominee for President. It also includes extremist commentators, long belittled or ignored by the media, whom mainstream pundits are now starting to take seriously. --Trolls For Trump

Just preempting the generic somebody (usually on more populated boards than this one) who would pop-up to contend that not every online advocate of pedophilia is real anymore than every online Nazi or identitarian is real. A token religious element (albeit sacrilegious) is also supplied by the Mencius Moldbug quote.

Quote:7 percent of Australia's Catholic priests accused of sexually abusing children

New meaning to the term 'down under'.

I guess 7% only represents those that have been caught. How many are getting away with it? Or can I ask ...how easy is it to be accused? Do all priests deserve to be painted with the same brush or at least put under suspicion?

The child molesters of the world seem to be very good at installing themselves into positions of trustworthy authority. Teachers and working with kids in general (coaches, group leaders) seem to be the most popular vocations along with the priesthood. I have no use for these perverts personally and if they get locked up for life I wouldn't care, I'd gladly pay my taxes in support of real harsh sentencing.
