Nils-Axel Mörner (the author + Another) was a real person and (apparently) respected(?) in his field. I get the impression he failed to convince people sea level rise wasn't real and here tries another tactic. As to whether he intends deception or is actually stupid I can't tell. His claim being that thermal expansion in deep water wouldn't cause a rise in sea level in shallow water.

His claim is made clear here:

Quote:"Specifically, he [Mörner] mentioned a tree he had discovered growing close to the shoreline as evidence to support his claim that sea level had actually fallen rather than risen. He also alleged that the tree had been deliberately destroyed by a group of Australian researchers who were promoting the IPCC view that sea level was rising."

Hmm... In an episode of "Gillian's Island" it was a stick (rather than a tree) that resulted in the opposite interpretation that the island was sinking, rather than more of it becoming exposed. Mörner would have been an impressionable 27-year-old when that episode aired in 1965 (granting that Swedish television distributed the show, like much of the world).

Quick Before It Sinks (episode): As Gilligan collects the lobster traps from the Lagoon, the Professor appears at the water's edge and points out a measuring stick to the Skipper he has been using to mark the tide. Seeing as it is almost entirely under water, he concludes the Island may be sinking into the ocean. They choose not to worry the women with the news, but when Gilligan thinks wearing stilts is the answer, the Professor believes building new huts on higher ground may be the answer.

[...] As the Skipper and Professor are trying to decide what to do next [after failed attempts], Gilligan checks the lobster traps and comes back carrying the Professor's measuring stick. It turns out he's been moving the stick into deeper water to catch bigger lobsters, rendering all their hard work a waste of time. Since the island isn't really sinking, Gilligan gets stuck cleaning the mess by himself as punishment for starting the panic...

From Mörner's diagram we get two postulates
https://juniperpublishers.com/ofoaj/imag...7.G002.png

1/ The sea may be rising in the deeper parts owing to thermal expansion
2/ The sea level at the coast does not rise when the level rises in the deeper parts owing to thermal expansion
I'm going to add a third..
3/ Water always flows to the lowest point

The way water flows appears to contradict Mörner's hypothesis that domes of water can form in the deep ocean.

So.. why???????

The CO2 Coalition funded the work and in March 2017 sent well-known climate science denier Nils-Axel Mörner to Fiji with Pamela Matlack-Klein, who has described herself as having a degree from the “Oceanographic Center of Nova Southeastern University, Dania, Florida, in 1983” and writes a weekly newspaper column.

Going back to 2018 and Trump#1 ..

Among the CO2 Coalition’s members is Kathleen Hartnett White — an energy and environment fellow at the Texas Public Policy Foundation who is Trump’s nominee to chair the Council on Environmental Quality, a White House group that helps coordinate environmental policy across the administration.

Trump has renominated Hartnett White, who also rejects any risk of human-caused climate change, after Senate hearings failed to confirm her for the post. Democratic Senator Sheldon Whitehouse has said she is “wildly unqualified” for the role because she “outright rejects basic science.”
