When did Criticism Become Hate?

Quote:Criticism becomes hate when it goes against a person's values, sense of self, or how they want to be seen. People may also dislike criticism if they think it's intended to tear them down, or if they associate criticism with shaming.

That’s Generative AI’s take.

By the look of it we’ve been hating for a long time and didn’t know it, or maybe just didn’t think we were being hateful. I think God may be a hater also, when has he ever not criticized us?

Hating/Criticism then has provided us with a lot of good things. Scientists seem quick to criticize peers yet we continue to advance our knowledge of things. I see much good in criticism, just didn’t know it was hate.

Maybe people have become much too sensitive or perhaps the ego itself is evolving and people now possess a greater sense of their self esteem/importance….idk.

I guess not being able to take criticism means a lot of good advice isn’t heeded. If you tell me my criticism is hate then do you hate me?

In my experience, unless it's coming from a friend or relative or coworker who has taken you aside, criticism by and large is motivated by the sick desire to belittle and hurt someone. Especially when it is directed towards one's physical traits, membership in some class of people, or their mannerisms and personal quirks. That to me is hate. It pretends to be about helping the person when in fact it is only intent on putting someone down to make oneself feel superior. Otherwise, why criticize at all? Why not lift up instead of tearing down?

Criticism is just an extension of critical thinking. Some people just lack that skill... and are butthurt about it.

There’s a lot of things you can do when you receive a job evaluation containing negative criticism and only one response is good. Reacting by doing nothing to going postal, none of it is good. Is it hate or an out of control ego?

Formally identifying, addressing, and remedying "hate" entails critical analysis of those engaging in it. And the accompanying demeanor usually isn't "nice" and devoid of some air of superiority itself, especially when directly engaging with the culprits. Has anyone ever seen footage of activists on the streets that didn't have a nasty, reciprocal attitude? Surely there are a few scenes of "flower children" that were too zonked out on whatever to do anything other than smile blissfully while waving a placard.

In the movies and shows of early Westerns, the Quackers or whatever related groups would often be depicted as passive and friendly slash non-aggressive even when someone was urinating on their faces or burning down their barns/homes. Did that actually work out for them in real life, or was it ever true to begin with? Apparently they either still survived if it was, or gave up on the peaceful disposition if it wasn't working out.
