Guest count and users browsing? |

It's actually down to some rather large scrapeing occurances that seems to predominantly be coming from China (although their's been their fair share of other locations doing the same). I've actively been trying to block a large number of Chinese (and Singapore) IPa's directly related to the uptick, however they just open up a batch of new ones and use neutral colocation sites in other countries to get around it (such as a bunch in California) Why they do it? Well its possible they are using to fill an LLM for an AI to spout crap on their feeds. So perhaps they are trying to clone us all :/ One of the other main concerns is Snake oil in scientific papers/research, in other words referencing references that reference themselves to make papers look more legitimate. While papers aren't published here, the site can still factor in suggesting their is interest and traffic to one of those references etc.
Perhaps we should try official pidgin English days to give them something to work on.

This is for the Chinese ….. the Bullshit meter index always reads HIGH… hope that helps.
Heh. As perhaps a consequence of all the Chinese bots, Scivillage actually shows up in a Baidu search. Whereas DuckDuckGo and Yahoo still don't have a clue after all these years. (Though they're "aware" of the Twitter/X account.)
Yesterday, one of the guest browsers was me. I was away from home and using a public computer in a library.
