Cabrini |
Tks for posting. My sister and her husband are strong Catholics. I will recommend it to her on Facebook.
Ah, a real patron saint celebrated on the screen, for a change. The nearest thing to a nun that I've been exposed to recently is fictional and secondary character Sister Andrea on the TV series Evil, making her rounds sighting and stalking demons in musty corners of the Church and at Dr. Kristen Bouchard's residence.
I get it. Sounds like a Hollywood beat down of men
“….I am a woman, I am Italian*, we are all human beings, we are the same, shame you’re a woman, you’d have made an excellent man, men can’t ever do what we do….” * Quote: https://eige.europa.eu/gender-equality-i...'s%20score. Italian men not winning any points here, I assume it’s been getting better. I’ll pass. I’m already aware of how bad men are. Empowering women flicks seem common these days. Sounds like a Hollywood beat down of men Philanthropic motivations are complex, but if you compare her to…let’s say Oprah Winfrey, Cabrini wins hands down. The financial and logistical challenges that someone faces today are quite different from those encountered by someone running charitable institutions in the early 20th century. She fought against both church and state in trying to better the lives of the unfortunate. It was a good movie but to each his own. (I forgot “She refused to back down” scrolled across screen as well during that time interval. Probably is a good flick but I guess the trailer just didn’t do it for me. At least she wasn’t shown physically kicking the butts of men twice/thrice her size. But most movies seem to need one of those for drama enhancement, or to integrate and personify multiple challenges under a single time-saving opponent identity. Not bad compared to some historical films that aggressively interpret and modify public record and any preserved private information to retrospectively fit contemporary narratives and sensitivities. How Accurate is Cabrini? The Movie vs. the Real Story of Frances Cabrini https://www.historyvshollywood.com/reelfaces/cabrini/ Did the real Frances Cabrini speak English when she arrived in America? (No) Is the prostitute Vittoria based on a real person? (No) Is John Lithgow's character, Mayor Gould, based on a real person? (No) Is the Opera singer Disalvo based on a real person? (fudged a bit) |
