
We're never really that far from death. Which is why we fill our time with distractions from the looming prospect of our own final departure. Life itself, therefore, is the ultimate near-death experience.. If we can live like that, live on the enlivening brink of never again, death won't be so bad when it comes. Nothingness will miraculously suit us somehow, like slipping into an old beloved coat on a brisk and breezy morning.
