Why is Pepto-Bismol pink?

Commercials would tout the benefit of Pepto Bismol by showing animation of it coating the walls of the stomach and intestines. A creamy pink emmolient that soothes the stomach pain in a blanket of relief. I doubt that that is how it works, but that became the standard association of the cool pink goop over the years.
