Honestly I don’t understand why this kind of stuff keeps happening to me. On Monday I start receiving emails from people I don’t know. It was a series of emails between parishioners who appear to be members of their local church’s executive council. I checked the mailing list and found my email address along with that of the executive members. Obviously mine shouldn’t have been on it.
But I have received emails intended for someone else who lives in the city where this church is located. It’s a 4-5 hr drive from where I live. In the past I’ve emailed senders trying to reach this guy to tell them I’m not who they think I am. Turns out the person they want has an email address so close to mine that you have to look twice to figure out the difference. I’ve even emailed the guy and now know him by name. Still it keeps happening and I’m tired of returning emails saying they’ve made a mistake.
Back to this email chain I got yesterday. The executive are not talking very kindly about their pastor. So out of curiosity I Google the pastor’s name and find news story saying he was defeated in a bid to win a seat in the last federal election a year ago. During the campaign someone had taped anti alternative lifestyle LGBTQ messages etc to the church doors. Apparently the preacher supported these lifestyles and someone took offence.
Here’s the story : https://lfpress.com/news/local-news/hate...-democrats
Reading the email chain accidentally sent to me gave me a good idea of who might have taped these messages on the church doors. Remember I don’t know these people at all. There’s one guy who I would definitely question. I’m tempted to send the emails I’ve received to the news reporter and let him decide if police should take a look.
My question is about the legality of revealing what is obviously a private conversation between executive members of this church. Are emails, whether intended for you or not, part of the public domain and can I share them?
