Hide and clap

This hide and clap game came up in a scary movie from the 70s. New to me.. lots of potential for breaking stuff and falling down stairs so I thought I'd share it.
From the movie:
The seeker is blindfolded and turned by the hiders up to the count of three. The seeker is on their honour to continue to turn up to the count of 10. The seeker can call upon the hiders to clap. The seeker can ask for up to three claps - if the seeker hasn't found anyone within three claps or is seriously injured then the seeker loses. I'd guess anyone found becomes the new seeker otherwise the seeker has to go again until either fatally injured, hospitalised or actually finds someone.

Edit:
The hiders (or demonic entities) have to clap twice (clap-clap) to make locating them easier.

Interesting (I never saw the film). Don't know why I'm surprised that WikiHow has an instructional on it.

When I was purely speculating from the title of the thread, my first thought was that it might be about that vintage game of "hide the salami". But tweaked with a specific venereal social disease concern of that era.

16 reasons why the true story behind "The Conjuring" is even creepier than the movie.

Ignoring the similarities between the the game in the OP and a somewhat different ballgame popular in the 70s when the one with the clap (an STD) would most likely be visiting a clinic in the near future. As I pointed out in the OP I've never played the game as explained the OP. I expected the odd - yeah, played that when I was a kid but it seems it was invented by and for the movie.

Many years ago I was a 'Youth Worker' - this did seem like a game we could have used - obviously with someone following the blindfolded seeker to make sure they were safe. A kind of trust game that was popular at the time. One thing I learned the hard way was to stay in control of these trust games - never trust a group of children - in any group of children there will at least one demonic entity.

Just how (or why) CC tracked down the movie from the OP .. ???
Not a great scary movie but not bad either.
The BBC has the film on for the next 9 days. I think anyone can watch but you might get advertisements:
