You throw as wide of a net for potential voters as possible so you can get every possible vote. The problem with that is you’re going to include factions that are opposed to other factions in the coalition.

So any candidate that tries to run ... on the issue ... they're probably going to lose. But a candidate who can ignore the policy issues and run on charisma can paper over the difference. Well, the Democrats this round have two real problems. Number one, they don’t have anyone with charisma at all. And it’s a by-election. [...] ever since Joe Biden became president, and especially since he left, the Democrats have been leaderless, rudderless, and policyless. And it’s just really hard to generate an electoral program that is more sophisticated than "we hate Trump". ... that might not be enough because it wasn’t enough the last couple times they tried that.

[...] Piece two is that the coalition -- the big tent -- has failed. While Trump has imploded the Republican coalition, he has succeeded in drawing a lot of voters away from the Democratic coalition. So if you look at how people actually voted the last time around, under 30 split almost right down the middle, so did Hispanics, so did organized labor. And these have been three vote banks for the Democrats going back 50, 60 years.

INTRO: Strange New Worlds season 4 writers gave an interview explaining their creative philosophy — framing every episode as a genre exercise and describing Captain Pike's more emotionally open, less decisive characterization as an intentional creative choice rather than a writing failure. The interview confirms what audience scores have been showing all season: Strange New Worlds' writers are making a different show than Star Trek fans are trying to watch. Built around genre exercises and therapeutic masculinity rather than the command decisiveness and scientific rationalism that defined the franchise's best captains from Kirk through Picard.

This is infuriating. These people know exactly what they're doing. They're just doing whatever the hell they want. And they don't want to make Star Trek. They want to make other things. That's very, very clear.

So, this is where we might actually have a little bit of hope, my friends. Season 5 is a slightly different animal. Just the fact that there are only six episodes, and this is probably the most I can say about that.

We've heard there's an end goal in season 5 everything is heading towards. Okay. Glad to hear that. So, season 5 might get back on track. But it's a little too late, guys. They didn't develop any of this stuff in the show at all. Like I mean, the show really wasted its potential. And that's what's infuriating. We've sat through it with the hope that we actually were going to get some real Star Trek for a while. It didn't ever come about. It actually went way off a cliff pretty fast.

And now trying to gear up towards a sort of back-end pilot to another show called Star Trek Year One or whatever they wanted to call that. So that they can reboot the original series. That was their intention. That's all they're building up towards and we know it. So it's not that exciting. It really isn't.

They really didn't give us much Captain Pike or or any real insight into him. They do the things where it's like, "Oh, he's crying on set. That's deep." It's fake deep.

If you look at original Star Trek, I watched a bunch of it this weekend, there is real camaraderie there. There is real emotion there. They don't have to tell you. They don't have to make the crying a big thing. Because Kirk did cry at one point as Spock died. And and it worked because it was genuine.

Where this was a skin suit soap opera for Star Trek...

Of the ICBs with minimum waiting times in place, two – Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin and West Yorkshire – have introduced a minimum wait of 16 weeks for all routine procedures, the investigation found.

VIDEO EXCERPTS: Starfleet Academy got canceled again. Oh, yeah. You could tell just by the grin on my face that I love this. It's called Schadenfreude. If you don't know the word, it's a good one, look it up. And that's where I'm at with this whole Starfleet Academy situation. Now, this is not just me being vindictive. Hey, a little bit vindictive, but it's not for a bad reason.

They intentionally made a Star Trek that Star Trek fans would hate. Remember earlier in the year -- because the internet forgets things every 2 weeks -- that these people went out there and called us all bigots and trolls and racists for not paying attention to the show and not liking it. They demanded that we like it; otherwise, we are not real Star Trek fans. They did this. They went out there and said that.

And then I actually had to deal personally with people like Robert Picardo, who plays the Emergency Medical Hologram Doctor, personally attacking me. I had to deal with Karim Diané, the gay Klingon actor, personally attacking me on Facebook because I was criticizing a TV show.

I've invited both of them to talk on the channel. I have no problem talking to people, and these individuals do have problems with that. They don't want anything other than the narrative with the capital N out there, and that's exactly why Starfleet Academy failed. The ratings were terrible, as we know.

We watched the premiere on YouTube, and we watched Nerdrotic sit with a Spock doll on his chair and live-stream that and actually get more views than the live-stream premiere. It was very, very embarrassing for them. And it is embarrassing.

We watched the Star Trek Axanar premiere -- a new documentary --actually get more YouTube views than Starfleet Academy was getting in its first day before they even took it down. They took it down. They were embarrassed by these moments because they know that real Star Trek does exist.

They actually wanted to turn the fans away and try to get this new "modern audience" to show up. And the modern audience didn't show up. Now, it's getting even worse. It's funny stuff.

[...] So what am I talking about? Starfleet Academy. We know it was canceled, but season 2 is still going to debut. Yet the series is canceled; they're not bringing it back. All the sets have been sold. It's not even possible to get a third year at this point. Alex Kurtzman's contract is over.

VIDEO EXCERPTS: Starfleet Academy got canceled again. Oh, yeah. You could tell just by the grin on my face that I love this. It's called Schadenfreude. If you don't know the word, it's a good one, look it up. And that's where I'm at with this whole Starfleet Academy situation. Now, this is not just me being vindictive. Hey, a little bit vindictive, but it's not for a bad reason.

They intentionally made a Star Trek that Star Trek fans would hate. Remember earlier in the year -- because the internet forgets things every 2 weeks -- that these people went out there and called us all bigots and trolls and racists for not paying attention to the show and not liking it. They demanded that we like it; otherwise, we are not real Star Trek fans. They did this. They went out there and said that.

And then I actually had to deal personally with people like Robert Picardo, who plays the Emergency Medical Hologram Doctor, personally attacking me. I had to deal with Karim Diané, the gay Klingon actor, personally attacking me on Facebook because I was criticizing a TV show.

I've invited both of them to talk on the channel. I have no problem talking to people, and these individuals do have problems with that. They don't want anything other than the narrative with the capital N out there, and that's exactly why Starfleet Academy failed. The ratings were terrible, as we know.

We watched the premiere on YouTube, and we watched Nerdrotic sit with a Spock doll on his chair and live-stream that and actually get more views than the live-stream premiere. It was very, very embarrassing for them. And it is embarrassing.

We watched the Star Trek Axanar premiere -- a new documentary --actually get more YouTube views than Starfleet Academy was getting in its first day before they even took it down. They took it down. They were embarrassed by these moments because they know that real Star Trek does exist.

They actually wanted to turn the fans away and try to get this new "modern audience" to show up. And the modern audience didn't show up. Now, it's getting even worse. It's funny stuff.

[...] So what am I talking about? Starfleet Academy. We know it was canceled, but season 2 is still going to debut. Yet the series is canceled; they're not bringing it back. All the sets have been sold. It's not even possible to get a third year at this point. Alex Kurtzman's contract is over.

[...] So, what else is there? Well, they decided to try a Starfleet Academy comic book. I kid you not. Yes, it's got LGBTQ inclusiveness. Well, I'm sad to report for those fans of this comic book out there...

VIDEO EXCERPTS: So Spider-Man and the Odyssey are two movies this summer that have made basically a billion dollars.

This summer has been really amazing. Hollywood broke out of its iterative cycle and suddenly found their way back onto the road. It started with Project Hail Mary, which was a book adaptation, but was kind of unusual and family-friendly and really well done.

And then we had a month when these two indie horror movies, Backrooms and Obsession, were huge and all the kids were going to them.

And at the same time, not to rejoice in the failure of others, but, The Mandalorian and Grogu did really badly. Disclosure Day totally underperformed, the Steven Spielberg movie. Masters of the Universe. These are all movies I will confess to you that I was rooting for them to fail because I just don't think that it's good to have these movies exist.

And importantly, it's because these are children's movies that don't cater to children. Like these are children's movies for adults and there's something unhealthy about that.

Yeah, these are Disney adult movies, big time. They once made money and therefore the studios have to make them in order to support the making of movies generally. But if they stop making money, that's a horse of a different color, right?

Then we're in a world where audiences are actually hungry for something new, and they're hungry for these creators whom they know and love through YouTube. Because the latter have been shut out of the studio system because the studio system is in hawk to this gazillion dollar model where they have to make these giant, meaningless trash movies about superheroes, you know.

And so we kind of felt like we were achieving lift-off from that pattern. Even with the Odyssey, which love it or hate it, right? It's a movie based on a Greek poem. Like there's a real unusualness to that movie, and it was thought-provoking and people had substantive meaningful discussions about it. And like if you think Nolan has unduly Christianized the Odyssey or if you think that he has legitimately inserted Christian values into it, you know, that's a really sophisticated conversation for the whole country to be having.

And so when Spider-Man made a billion dollars, I was kind of like, "Oh, no. Like, are we going to revert to that old mess?" And we might. We might just go back to more schlock. But I haven't seen Spider-Man. I know Matt Walsh hates it and I know there's some people that are upset about it.

But it's got Tom Holland in it who's incredibly charming. It's got a romance at the center of it which a lot of these movies lack. It doesn't do any weird woke stuff. It just kind of goes through the usual story beats of a superhero movie. And so I think we're going to always live in a world where those movies make a lot of money. I don't actually think that's the problem. The problem was that was the only kind of movie we seem to be able to make...

Investigators also point to surveillance footage and text messages discussing where the vehicle needed to be positioned and saying the timing had to be “right.”

Nobody was hit. Jennifer Lackard was fired by Mount Vernon and pleaded not guilty to attempted murder, conspiracy, weapons charges, and other offenses. Chase also pleaded not guilty and was ordered held without bail.
