Are you a good listener? - Leigha - Jan 12, 2021

I took this quiz - it takes about ten minutes or less. The results might surprise you.

Did you take it? ^^

It's very interesting. There's a lot more to listening than meets the ear. lol

Don’t need a quiz to tell me I’m a lousy listener, I have a wife.

RE: Are you a good listener? - Leigha - Jan 12, 2021

lol ^^

Yea, the questions get you to think about ''when'' you tend to listen and why. If we're not interested in the subject matter, we may tune out. That one would seem obvious, but it goes into further detail. Do we ask pertinent questions while we're listening, or do we sit back and wait to ask questions at the end, etc. Some good points to think on.

Might have something to do with our inability to multi-task. I pay less attention to people if I’m even thinking about something, let alone actually performing a task.

A good thinker may be a bad listener.

Like Z. I have a wife. I have evolved a strategy which enables me to repeat back the last 15 seconds of what she's said when she accuses me of not listening. If you can keep the last 15 seconds the rest doesn't matter.

Me>Where have you hidden the key to the garden shed?
She>You've asked me that about a hundred times now - why don't you listen to me for a change? It's in _______________________

The quiz suggested that I had the potential to be a good listener. I think that's kind'a suggesting I might not actually be a good listener as things stand right now.

Unless people are willing to share their results, I don't see the point.

I've generally found hamsters are the best listeners.
Me>"Would you like another sunflower seed?"
Hamster><Beyond reasonable doubt indicates he would like another sunflower seed.>
Me>"Would you like yet another sunflower seed?"
Hamster><Beyond reasonable doubt indicates he would like yet another sunflower seed.>
..and so it goes on, fulfilling the most basic need of one entity to communicate with another.

You could share your results if you wanted to. I might be interested - probably not - but that's a chance we all take.

The results are self-edifying, share if you like. Not very often I come away surprised by the results of a quiz. The questions of these types of quizzes are usually obvious as to where they're leaning, but this one ...not as much. Take at your own risk. Wink

Well, I learned that you can perversely score 78 without really paying much attention to the questions. Rewarded for a habitual lack of focus, IOW.

Instead, maybe it's the lower amounts that are indicative of good concentration. That would explain either the number or coincide with the original expectations of my skills in that department.

I vaguely remember noticing an... assessment... below a... green bar or graph?

Said something about... being patient or having patience...? Other stuff...
