Unlike the chewing-gum wrapper method, didn't expect a "no circuit at all" physical interaction as the test. Gas build-up under the sheathing maybe helps the bounce a bit.

Have heard of bouncing battery test but somewhere I read that it has nothing to do with remaining charge but it is an indication of freshness. Maybe newer batts bounce higher. Question remains as to why anyone would trust that test instead of just inserting a battery and see if device turns on.

Have my voltmeter and a bunch of AA batteries so I might give it a go.
