Recent issue using ''reply'' - Leigha - Jan 18, 2020

I'm finding that after I click ''reply'' to quote an above poster, their quote doesn't carry over, so the page is blank. I'm having to click ''quote'' and then reply to have the quote appear in my post. Anyone else?

RE: Recent issue using ''reply'' - Syne - Jan 18, 2020

"Reply" includes the quote here. Maybe it's a temporary issue, or something specific to your browser?

I often have javascript disabled via a browser toggle-extension when I reply in here (and venture elsewhere on the web). So that might be why I've never encountered this glitch yet. When JS is off, I only get some kind of quick-reply version but with the quote included (and the BB-code buttons are all missing, which doesn't bother me since I insert such manually anyway, if needed).

That could be, CC.

Okay, so I just multi-quoted both of your posts, and when I clicked new reply, the two quotes appeared here. But, not when I choose to reply to one post. You insert others' quotes manually, CC?

If I turn off javascript, the "+Quote" button disappears, but hitting "Reply" still includes the quoted post.

So I assume something has changed on your system or browser.

What Syne said afterward. With javascript (JS) off, "Reply" still automatically supplies a quote of a single person's post [EDIT: There are quote tags around it, too. That is one BB-code I don't have to add myself.]

I was just referring to BB-coding having to be manually inserted/typed.

Most of the time I forget "Quote" even exists, because it's gone. Only "Reply" and "Report" are there side by side when JS is off, and clicking "Reply" produces something akin to "Quick Reply" with respect to no BB-code icons/buttons being present above a textarea. But a quote is present in the latter.

Maybe I should mention that I use a Firefox browser, and I believe Syne does, too. We could be a couple of oddballs in here escaping a possible glitch in that sense, if everybody else uses Chrome or Edge or Safari. (Depending upon office or location, occasionally I'm on a device with an Opera browser... but no glitch with it, either.)

RE: Recent issue using ''reply'' - Syne - Jan 19, 2020

Yeah, I use Firefox, and very occasionally Opera. So could be an issue with some other browser.

Billvon could be experiencing the opposite of your problem sometimes -- or the same, but he handles it differently. Depending upon whether a post with a quote but no reply text is a glitch or just a cryptic stylemark of his. If the former, you might compare browsers (see if they're the same or different). Maybe a pattern will finally arise as to why some are affected and others not.

Good to know, CC.

Well, just like that, the problem seems to have resolved itself. lol I used reply today, and it quoted the above poster.
