Scientists Have Spotted Mysterious Explosions In Our Atmosphere
https://www.iflscience.com/space/russian-astronomers-say-they-have-spotted-mysterious-light-explosions/

EXCERPT:. . .  Mikhail Panasyuk, the director of the Research Institute of Nuclear Physics at Moscow State University, spoke to Sputnik News about this strange observation. “It looks like we have encountered new physical phenomena,” Panasyuk said. “For example, during Lomonosov's flight at an altitude of several dozen kilometers, we have registered several times a very powerful 'explosion' of light. But everything was clear underneath it, no storms, no clouds,” he continued. He added that they do not yet understand the physical nature of this strange phenomenon.

Details on these apparent light explosions are extremely vague but faint flashes of light called sprites, which appear above thunderstorms, are a relatively common occurrence. [...] Of course, if, as Panasyuk says, there were no storms below the lights, the flashes of light picked up by the Lomonosov satellite must be something else.

What about ice crystals? [...] Again if, as Panasyuk says, there were no clouds below the lights, they must be being caused by something else. Plus, it's unclear whether or not this phenomenon can be captured on a UV telescope like the one on the Lomonosov satellite. Other celestial light shows have had more terrestrial origins. [...] the aftermath of a transformer explosion at a Con Edison facility based in Queens ... the ghostly ball of light seen floating over Siberia back in 2017 is thought to have been caused by the launch of intercontinental ballistic missiles...

EXCERPT: A strange spiral-shaped cloud has left experts scratching their heads. The cloud, which resembles a jet’s vapor trail or a rocket launch, was photographed last week on Salisbury Plain in Southern England. SWNS reports that neither U.K. defense officials nor university weather experts have been unable to explain the cloud. The image was taken near a Ministry of Defense testing range. However, the U.K’s Defense Infrastructure Organization is not aware of any exercises that could have caused the cloud. [...] Mr Hargrave, 66, said he had never seen anything like it, adding: ‘I haven’t got a clue what it is either — hopefully someone out there will have an answer. It is a mystery.’ [...] The mysterious cloud formation stunned residents and some even compared it to a UFO.

@Corkscrews

I would suggest probably a launch by one of the amateur rocket groups in the UK, although I can't confirm that.

United Kingdom Rocketry Association (UKRA) might be able to shed light.... although it looks like they don't start being active until March.

I took my sister to the Oregon Coast once. The sky was clear and blue. As we were standing on a cliff looking out on the Pacific Ocean a loud boom was heard from that direction. I asked my sister "What was that?!" Never did find out. There's mysterious explosion sounds all over the world.

It definitely looks like rocket exhaust.

The fact that the British army conducts exercises on the Salisbury plain suggests that it might have been some sort of military rocket.

And "the U.K's Defense Infrastructure Organization is not aware of any exercises that could have caused the cloud" isn't exactly a denial.

But yeah, Stryder's hypothesis that it was amateurs is probably most likely.

I've occasionally heard loud booms too. Never any plume of smoke or news item to explain what it might have been. Sonic booms from supersonic military jets? I don't know.

you can see by the different level of dispersion of the smoke that the launch was probably done around 4 or 5 am when the air was very still and settled and damp.
as the morning has gone on with no wind conditions, the lower half of the trail has continued to expand and disperse with probable land thermal heat.
you can also see the flat upper cloud layer clearly indicating a very settled almost windless atmospheric condition.
perfect for rocket testing.
you can see by the twisting that they have had some steering problems or it has tracking that is looking to acquire and/or failed to acquire at 2 distinct points or they are testing steering

the sudden stopping of the trail suggests a high level of technology to have a clean precise burn
