The current agricultural model of large food miles just won't cut it. But what if we could grow our food within or just outside our cities? Obviously, there isn't space in cities for large sprawling farms, but a new idea being led by LED manufacturers proves that food can be grown vertically in warehouses using the bulbs requiring less water and very little energy.... RE: LED bulbs trigger urban farming revolution? - stryder - Mar 23, 2015 I recently watched something that originated from MIT where students were currently building grow spaces into cupboard etc. The main consideration is that as time marches on, the global population grows ever closer to a point where it will not be able to sustain feeding itself. Growing produce where ever you can is the only way to reduce the overall burden on both production and cost. What I did notice from the MIT prototypes is they have missed the capacity to use a water body to absorb excess heat, so that you don't necessarily need a boiler to heat hot water for washing your hands etc. |
